Elbit Systems has completed its acquisition of International Submarine Engineering (ISE), a Vancouver-area maker of autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles, the company announced Oct. 20.[1] Elbit described the purchase price as not material to the company.[1]

The acquisition adds an underwater vehicle manufacturer to a naval portfolio that already includes unmanned surface vessels, underwater systems, sonar and command-and-control suites.[1] Elbit intends ISE’s underwater autonomous technologies to further strengthen what it calls its end-to-end maritime offering.[1]

ISE has more than 50 years of experience in subsea robotics and also develops and manufactures computer control systems and robotics.[1] Elbit says ISE has delivered more than 250 underwater vehicles to customers in more than 20 countries.[1]

## Why it matters

Saar Koursh, Elbit’s senior vice president and general manager of Elbit Naval Systems, told Breaking Defense that ISE’s underwater capabilities complement the Seagull unmanned surface vessel.[2] He said the acquisition would enable Elbit to offer naval forces autonomous air, surface and underwater systems integrated into a single mission framework.[2] Customers could deploy coordinated assets as one solution or buy standalone systems, Koursh told the outlet.[2]
