Hyperion Materials & Technologies has acquired The Ultra-Met Company, an Urbana, Ohio, manufacturer of custom-molded tungsten carbide products for defense, aerospace and general industrial manufacturing.[1]

The deal brings together two manufacturers with a history of sourcing a substantial portion of their carbide from Western producers, according to Hyperion.[1] Hyperion CEO Ron Voigt said the U.S. defense industry needs stable Western suppliers to meet its components and tooling needs.[1]

The acquisition closed Oct. 1, 2026, following customary regulatory approvals and completion of certain pre-closing conditions.[1] Hyperion did not disclose a purchase price or financing terms in its announcement.[1] Ultra-Met employees will join Hyperion’s broad-based ownership program.[1]

## Why it matters

The acquisition adds Ultra-Met’s custom-molded tungsten carbide products to Hyperion’s tungsten carbide and diamond tool blanks and wear parts.[1] Ultra-Met President Neil Cordonnier said the company aims to reach a broader market and offer a more complete portfolio to industries including aerospace, defense and energy.[1]
