The Army announced on Oct. 28 that it had designated two Indiana sites for commercial drone and counter-drone testing, DefenseScoop reported.[1] Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center and Muscatatuck Training Center join the Army's Permissive Test Range Expansion Initiative.[1]

Vendors can request access to either site, or other locations in the initiative, through testrange.army.mil.[1] For the Indiana sites, an Army Test and Evaluation Command team will work with applicants and the Indiana National Guard to coordinate testing schedules and requirements.[1]

The sites offer different testing conditions.[1] Atterbury has more than 34,000 acres and a dedicated restricted airspace corridor up to 40,000 feet, according to the Army release cited by DefenseScoop.[1] Muscatatuck is a 1,000-acre developmental testing site with configurable urban infrastructure for testing drone and counter-drone navigation and tracking systems in complex physical layouts.[1]

## Why it matters

Suppliers have two additional locations where they can request test time, but capacity limits mean their preferred site and timing are not guaranteed, DefenseScoop reports.[1]
