The Army selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) and World Wide Technology (WWT) for Project Griffin, an AI-enabled cybersecurity pilot, DefenseScoop reported Oct. 28.[1] The effort has a combined total value of $2.6 million under the Army Rapid Development of Cyber Defense Systems program.[1]

The Army aims to develop agents that use information from its network sensors to take defensive measures against potential threats faster than a human operator can.[1] Its August solicitation sought agentic AI solutions for an Intelligent Response and Orchestration Node, or IRON, under Griffin.[1]

Brandon Pugh, the Secretary of the Army’s principal cyber advisor, said at the AUSA conference earlier in October that the Army received over 100 industry submissions and selected two vendors.[1] He did not name them then.[1]

WWT area vice president Keith Linenberger wrote in a LinkedIn post quoted by DefenseScoop that WWT is partnering with Crogl on integrations connecting AI agents with cyber teams’ tools and data.[1] He described the work as a prototype.[1] DefenseScoop’s article does not specify AWS’s deliverables or how the pilot’s value is divided between the companies.[1]

## Why it matters

DefenseScoop reported that the August solicitation requires IRON to distinguish actual threats from false positives and maintain a complete, automated audit trail for every action it takes.[2] Those requirements pair the Army’s speed goal with controls on the agents’ actions.[1][2]
