The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) posted a solicitation Nov. 2 for Unison, seeking research on autonomous teams that adapt their decision-making and communications together during missions.[1]

For autonomy developers, Unison puts joint action and communications planning at the center of the research opportunity.[1] The program seeks to preserve mission performance while reducing communication dependence and bounding the reasoning burden on individual agents.[1]

It will investigate approaches across teams of tens to hundreds of agents in representative collaborative, multi-domain mission scenarios.[1] The research targets teams that can modify tactics, behaviors, coordination relationships and information exchange as mission complexity and operational variability increase and communications become constrained or degraded.[1]

Responses are due Friday, Dec. 4, 2026.[1] The deadline for solicitation DARPA-PS-27-06 is 5 p.m. Eastern.[1]

## Why it matters

DARPA's hypothesis is that reasoning about action planning and communications planning together during execution can improve collaborative autonomy's effectiveness, scalability and resilience in dynamic, uncertain and resource-constrained environments.[1]
