Privacy policy
Last updated: November 3, 2026
TGOs (tgos.io and thegrowthofficers.com) is owned by SailQuery LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. SailQuery LLC also owns Met, an app. TGOs and Met don't share your personal information with each other.
Whitespace, our separate workspace for invited teams, has its own privacy policy. This page covers the TGOs publication and its emails.
The short version
- To send you our emails we need your email address. Everything else is optional.
- We count readers with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-site advertising.
- Sponsors get totals only, never your name or email.
- You can ask to see, fix, export or delete your data at any time: [email protected].
1. What we collect
You give us
| Data | When | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | You sign up for the Weekly or other TGOs emails | Yes, for email |
| Role (for example growth, corporate development, private equity, banker, government), company type and size | Optional questions at sign-up | No |
| Which TGOs emails you want | You choose them at sign-up | No |
| Tips, corrections and messages | You email us | No |
Collected automatically
- Anonymous action counts: we count actions on our pages, such as starting a sign-up, making a search or reading a section, without cookies or identifiers. Search terms are counted; terms that look like email addresses are dropped.
- Site analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics records pages viewed, the referring site, rough location (country), device type, browser and operating system, and how fast pages load. It uses no cookies or local storage and doesn't fingerprint visitors.
- Email delivery: whether an email was delivered or bounced. We don't track opens or link clicks in our emails.
- Security logs: IP address, time and request details, kept by our hosting provider to keep the site running and to stop abuse.
- Light-mode setting: if you switch to light mode, your browser remembers it locally. It never leaves your device.
People in our reporting. Our journalism names people in their professional roles (for example a company's CEO) using public sources only. See section 7.
2. How we use it
- To send what you asked for: the Weekly and the other TGOs emails you choose.
- To improve TGOs: which stories and graphics readers find useful, and which topics to cover.
- To sell sponsorships, using totals only. Sponsors may see audience composition, such as the share of subscribers by role. They never get a list, a name or an email address.
- To keep TGOs safe: stop spam, abuse and attacks.
- To meet legal duties: for example keeping records of your email consent and honouring unsubscribes.
We don't sell personal information, rent our list, run third-party advertising trackers, or use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Legal bases (for readers in the EU and UK): consent for marketing emails; legitimate interests for security, cookieless aggregate analytics and audience totals; legal obligation for consent records.
3. Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers under written terms. They may use the data only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What it does | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., San Francisco) | Sends our email and stores the subscriber list, topic choices and optional profile answers | Email, preferences, role answers, delivery data |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the site, protects it from attacks, runs our sign-up service and counts readers (Cloudflare Web Analytics) | IP address and request logs; sign-up submissions; page views and page-load timing |
| Google Workspace | Receives the email you send to tgos.io addresses | Your message, address and anything you attach |
We'll update this list before adding a provider that handles your personal information.
International transfers: our providers are mostly in the United States. Resend's data processing addendum uses the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers out of the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Each provider's own data processing terms govern its transfers.
4. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Subscriber email and preferences | While you're subscribed. After you unsubscribe we keep only your email on a suppression list so we never email you again. |
| Proof of consent (sign-up time, confirmation, source) | While we email you, and afterward only as long as needed to show consent was given |
| Unconfirmed sign-ups (you never confirmed) | Deleted after 30 days |
| Optional profile answers | Until you delete them or unsubscribe |
| Site analytics and security logs | Kept by Cloudflare under its standard terms |
| Tips and correction requests | As long as the related story is published, so we can show what was corrected and why |
5. Your choices and rights
Everyone, everywhere, gets these:
- Unsubscribe using the link in any email.
- Access: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your data (we keep a suppression entry so we don't email you again, and records the law makes us keep).
- Export your data in a common format.
- Object to any use, including audience totals.
Email [email protected]. We'll confirm your identity by email and answer within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.

6. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest where our providers support it, limit access to the systems that need it, and keep access logs. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information we'll tell you and any regulator as the law requires.
7. People named in our journalism
TGOs reports on people in their professional roles: executives, officials, and people quoted on the record. We use public professional information only (name, title, employer, public statements, public biographies). We don't publish home addresses, personal contact details, family information or anything from non-public sources. If you think we have something wrong about you, see our Corrections page or email [email protected].
8. Children
TGOs is for professionals and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
9. Changes
We'll post any change here with a new date and email subscribers about material changes before they take effect.
