Army adds Indiana sites for commercial drone and counter-drone testing, DefenseScoop reports
DefenseScoop reports that Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck join the Army's commercial testing initiative, offering restricted airspace and configurable urban infrastructure.
The Army announced on Oct. 28 that it had designated two Indiana sites for commercial drone and counter-drone testing, DefenseScoop reported. Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center and Muscatatuck Training Center join the Army's Permissive Test Range Expansion Initiative.1
Vendors can request access to the sites at Atterbury, Muscatatuck

Vendors can request access to the sites at Atterbury, Muscatatuck, or other locations that are part of the initiative via an online portal: testrange.army.mil
submitting a request does not guarantee a vendor’s desired location or timeline due to capacity limits

Vendors can request access to either site, or other locations in the initiative, through testrange.army.mil. For the Indiana sites, an Army Test and Evaluation Command team will work with applicants and the Indiana National Guard to coordinate testing schedules and requirements.1
The sites offer different testing conditions. Atterbury has more than 34,000 acres and a dedicated restricted airspace corridor up to 40,000 feet, according to the Army release cited by DefenseScoop. Muscatatuck is a 1,000-acre developmental testing site with configurable urban infrastructure for testing drone and counter-drone navigation and tracking systems in complex physical layouts.1
Suppliers have two additional locations where they can request test time, but capacity limits mean their preferred site and timing are not guaranteed, DefenseScoop reports.1
